Vintage Fresh Green Bean Casserole (circa 1956) Recipe
The classic green bean casserole is even more delicious at Thanksgiving dinner when made with fresh green beans.
I cooked green beans that were fresh more like twenty minutes. I also used a white cheddar cheese. I cooked 30 minutes without the grinch onion topping and then added the topping at my final destination and Cooke 5 -10 minutes more. I mixed the green beans, cheese and condensed soup all together for the bottom layer. Delicious

Made this variation of traditional green bean casserole with the cheese on Easter. My husband isn’t a big fan of GBC, but the cheese addition made him a believer! Fresh green beans are a must. The only other thought I had is some crumbled bacon. I will try that next time around. This recipe is definitely a keeper!
I needed something to help use up all the green beans I was getting from the garden. My kids LOVE this!
This was a big hit. I used frozen French cut string beans. I microwave them, then pressed and dry them with paper towels to get out as much moisture as I could. This is a very good recipe. Thank you for sharing it.
Love fresh green beans!
This great variation of the traditional green bean casserole is topped with French fried onions and Cheddar cheese.
Chef John's green bean au gratin casserole has a creamy, rich cheese sauce that enhances, but doesn't cover up, the green beans, so they are still the star of the show.
